National Insurance

  • You will need a National Insurance number.

  • This qualifies you for sick pay, maternity and disability benefits and a state pension. (Depending on your record of contributions).

  • If you earn less than £4,745 in 2004/05 you do not pay contributions.

  • If you earn more than £4,745 in 2004/05 you pay 11% on the excess between £4,745 and £31,720, and 1% on earnings in excess of £31,720
